Sharing the creation of a work of art is complicated, there must be a "predisposition" to fit artistically, Joan Coderch and Javier Malavia have unified two sensibilities in a single voice, working four hands, forgetting the ego to prime the quality of Final result, an "uncommon" project that unites two independent artists to create a joint work.
Joan Coderch was born in Castellar del Vallés (Barcelona) in 1959. He started his studies at Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 1979 and graduated in sculpture's specialty.
Javier Malavia was born in Oñati (Guipúzcoa) in 1970, he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia in 1993.
Both artists met as they joined the team of sculptors at Lladró Porcelain Company, where they learned to master the language of this material while demonstrating their work, traveling and accumulating experiences around the world.
In 2015 they decide to start on this joint project.
Fascinated by figurative sculpture, human being is the central element of his aesthetic discourse. Always starting from natural models, their sculptures made in bronze explore different human attitudes facing life and the viewer will decode according to his own experiences, establishing a unique relationship that will provide a personal experience.
In spite of the short history as Coderch & Malavia, they've participated in more than 15 collective and individual exhibitions, obtained several selections and recognitions in contests, forming some of their works part of particular collections in different countries of Europe, Asia and America.
Joan and Javier currently live and work in Valencia.
