Rodrigo Vargas Oropeza lives and works in Mexico City where he was born in 1984. He studied at the CEDART (Center for Art Education) "Luis Spota Saavedra" (INBA), winning several prizes in juvenile drawing and painting contests at state and national level. He studied at the Royal Academy of San Carlos where he knew the sculpture more thoroughly and decided to dedicate himself to it at 100%.
In 2004, he won the first place in the sculpture competition "100 + 100 Neruda Yañes" and in 2005 he won the first place in the Anatomical Artistic Creativity Contest "Dr. Hermilo Castañeda Velasco" made by the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He also studied other courses and diplomas such as "The Transdicipline in Art" and "The Impact of the Concept on Sculpture". From 2006 to date he has worked in his sculptural work in small and medium format, handling 3 lines of expression: figurative, abstract and the fusion between them.
He has collaborated in large projects with Mexican plastic masters. He has 10 individual exhibitions and 30 collective exhibitions, as well as auctions and art fairs in Mexico City and several states of the country, three of them of international level.
He began his philanthropy work by donating from 2011 to 2015 sculptures to reward the winners of the first places of the "Adversary in the Quadrilateral" poetry tournament, organized by Verso Destierro magazine "Poesía para Evolucionar y Ser." He has donated works during three consecutive years for the "Living Art Auction" organized by the "Mexico Vivo" Foundation, which took place in the Museum of Modern Art in 2013, 2014 and 2015. He has exhibited in prestigious galleries in Mexico such as: Galería Náxica, Galería Ligia Fenollosa, Galería Corsica Vallarta, Manuel Chacón Gallery in San Miguel Allende, Luis Peimbert Gallery in Acapulco and Santiago Corral galleries in Valle de Bravo and San Miguel de Allende.
A small note about his work ...
Rodrigo Vargas is an emerging artist, sculpting works that blatantly dance between the abstract and the figurative, which seem to transform from one to the other before our eyes. It delights us with its very vivid and exciting bronzes and resins, with its sophistication and its fluid and sensual form. His use of color is very bold but never kitsch, a truly difficult achievement and in his case, very well executed.
